Six inducted into Centurion Society

Six alumni will be inducted into the Centurion Society during the Founder's Day Convocation on October 1.

The Centurion Society, founded in 1982, honors alumni who have become respected leaders in their field and recognizes them for achievements in business, public life, and their professions.

The 2009 inductees follow.

Jay H. Janssen ’59; J.D. ’61 University of Illinois; Senior Attorney and Owner, Janssen Law Center, Peoria, IL; Chairman, Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of Illinois, by Appointment of the Supreme Court of Illinois, 1998-2000; member, Illinois State Bar Association; American Trial Lawyers Association, Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America; recognitions include Leading American Attorneys, Illinois Super Lawyers, Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, Central Illinois Who’s Who in Business, 21 consecutive years, University of Illinois College of Law Distinguished Alumni Award, Fortune Magazine’s America’s Premier Lawyers, Fellow of the American Academy of Trial Council, Lecturer-Illinois Bar Association Continuing Legal Education, Lecturer-University of Illinois College of Law-Litigation; member, Bradley Renaissance Circle Society.

Dr. Robin L. Kelly ’78, MA ’82; Ph.D. Northern Illinois University; Chief of Staff to Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias; launched her own campaign for State Treasurer in August 2009; Illinois State Representative, 38th district, 2002-2006; sponsored and cosponsored bills to help build economic development, improve public safety, streamline the election process, protect victims of domestic violence and address mass transit issues affecting Chicago’s south suburbs; member, Cook County Human Rights Commission and Place Matters; former University Council member and Bradley Trustee; served on the boards of Rich Township Food Pantry, Illinois Theatre Center; Fellow, Flemming Leadership Institute; teacher, Prairie State College; awards received from SEIU Local 880, Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization,  Illinois Environmental Council, Matteson Area Chamber of Commerce, Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce, South Suburban Housing Center, Diversity Inc.

Harold “Lanny” Lamont ’60; Founder and President, Davlan Engineering Inc., St. Louis, MO (which he founded three years after graduating from Bradley); President, Carr Lane Manufacturing; President and Owner, Quality Screw Machine Products Inc. and Carr Lane Castings; diversified companies offering comprehensive services including design and engineering, precision machining, waterjet cutting, finishing operations and assembly; development of armor for military humvees; manufacturer of the famous Switzer’s Licorice; premier fabricators of sculptures by renowned artist Ernest Trova; produced statues of Jack Buck and Ozzie Smith for the new Busch Stadium; member of the last Bradley baseball team to play in College World Series; served on boards of the American Association of Industrial Management, YMCA of the Ozarks, Trout Lodge Camp; Trustee, Webster Hills United Methodist Church.

Nancy Hunter Rakoff ’59, MLS ’93; retired Executive Director, Common Place, Peoria, IL, organization formed to help individuals attain equal rights and have greater educational opportunities; beginning in 1967 as Volunteer Coordinator, then Development Director, then Executive Director for 23 years; organized Peoria County Court Observer program with volunteers in courts to recommend changes for the benefit of low income people; member, coalition to form the ongoing One City/One Book project, Peoria Reads; original board member of local Habitat for Humanity; “25 Women in Leadership” award in 2000; Valeska S. Hinton Human Rights Award in 2006; Celebration of Children Award for lifetime commitment to the welfare of children from Tri-County Child Abuse Prevention Council in 2006.

Dr. Lindsey R. Rolston ’85; M.D. ’89 University of Illinois College of Medicine-Peoria; Surgeon, Henry County Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine; New Castle, IN; inventor of the Journey Deuce Knee System, a knee replacement implant introduced in July 2007 that results in speedier recovery, preserving parts of the knee often not affected by osteoarthritis;  trains  surgeons worldwide and presents scores of medical lectures and seminars across the country; member, Indiana Orthopedic Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, Henry County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Society, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons; full athletic baseball scholarship 1981-85; Baseball team co-captain, 1985; professional baseball contract offer from Kansas City Royals, 1984.  

Dr. James N. Weinstein ’72; MS ’96 Dartmouth Medical School; DO ’77 Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine; Professor and Chair, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dartmouth Medical School; founder and medical director for the nation’s first Center for Shared Decision-Making, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Director, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, the nation’s leading health services research and educational organization studying and addressing reform of the U.S. health care system; editor-in-chief of Spine, an international, peer-reviewed periodical; oversees operations of Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system, the largest supplier of health services in northern New England; developer of the first Spine Tumor Classification system used around the world; originator and author of the first musculoskeletal Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care; widely published in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Spine, Journal of Neuroscience Methods; featured in The Washington Post, New York Times, Fortune Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Business Week; recipient, Bristol-Myers Career Research Award in pain research, the Kappa Delta Award, lifetime achievement award, International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine; member, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons board of directors, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
